Boots on the Ground
The phrase boots on the ground, from which the title of this devotional is derived, comes from a news interview in 1980 when US Army General Volney Frank Warner discussed the military's ability to rapidly deploy troops to respond to a contingency. A scriptural parallel is seen in Matthew 9:38 as the Lord Jesus Christ told us to pray for more laborers to enter the harvest fields. One might say He was asking for more "boots on the ground."
Each daily reading in Boots on the Ground is written to point every reader—military, veteran, or civilian—to Christ and to His Word. Each reading begins with a verse or passage from the Bible and then provides a story from military history and a devotional truth based on the Scripture passage. At the bottom of each page, you will find references for your longer-form Bible reading. you can follow these references to read through the entire Bible or simply the New Testament in a year.
