On Yonder Mountain

They came in the middle of the morning. Sarah felt the change in the classroom before she knew what was wrong. She turned to look. She saw two big boys. They were standing in the back with big grins on their faces. “Harvest’s done, teacher,” the biggest one said. “Ma sent us to git some learnin’.”  Between two brothers and eight cousins, six-year-old Sarah lives in a world of boys. Not even starting first grade helps that. Just as she gets used to school, the Clanton boys arrive. Could it be that she and her teacher are both in trouble now?
